Cyber crimes are increasingly common in the digital age. This article provides information about types of cyber crimes, legal sanctions, and cybersecurity measures.
Cyber crimes are offenses committed using computer systems, the internet, and digital technologies. These crimes are specifically regulated in the Turkish Penal Code.
The main types of cyber crimes are:
Unauthorized access: Gaining unauthorized access to someone else's computer system
Data manipulation: Altering, deleting, or corrupting data
Fraud: Committing fraud over the internet
Unauthorized use of personal data: Processing data in violation of KVKK
Cyberbullying: Threats and harassment in digital environments
Articles 243-246 of the Turkish Penal Code regulate cyber crimes. These crimes are punishable by imprisonment and judicial fines. For example, unauthorized access can result in 1 to 3 years of imprisonment.
Taking cybersecurity measures is critical for individuals and businesses. Using strong passwords, two-factor authentication, regular software updates, being cautious of suspicious emails, and setting up backup systems are important measures.
